Training Skills

  • Delivery of a pre-prepared training session on a work-related topic chosen by the delegate.

Note: The duration of each delegate's training session depends on the overall course length and the number of participants. An ideal group size is eight.

  • Comprehensive one-on-one and group feedback

Preparing a Training Session

  • Key questions for the trainer to consider in advance:
    • Why am I the right person for this?
    • Logistics: What, where, when, how, and how long?
    • Understanding how the answers to these questions influence the training session structure
  • Structuring the content:
    • Research to gain subject mastery
    • Organizing the content logically
    • Creating and utilizing complementary visual aids

Preparing the Trainer

  • A trainer’s three fundamental communication tools:
    • Verbal: Choice of words, avoiding slang and jargon
    • Vocal: Tone and sound, avoiding distracting verbal tics and unnecessary pauses
    • Visual: Presenter's appearance, including dress, mannerisms, and presence
  • Rehearsing the training session and receiving honest feedback from a trusted source
  • Managing nervousness

Preparing the Environment

  • Room layouts and how they convey underlying messages to attendees
  • Using the room to enhance the training experience
  • Properly tidying up after the course

Evaluation

  • The importance of evaluation
  • Processes for collecting and utilizing delegate feedback

  • Delivery of another training session (after adequate preparation time).
